Also a congressman of Sarangani, the popular pugilist dubbed as the "Pambansang Kamao," recently met with officials of the group including GVCF founder and chairman Yank Barry who flew to the country to personally oversee the distribution of relief goods for the victims of Typhoon Pablo last year.
GVCF are getting ready to provide over 2 million meals in aid to two provinces considered hardest struck by the typhoon: Sarangani and Compostela Valley.
Contrary to popular belief, the problems caused by the typhoon continue to be felt in the region with Barry himself acknowledging that it might take years before the people in the area could recover from the devastation wrought by the calamity.
"I don't think the world understands the long term effects of the devastation that happened here," said Barry during a recent press conference. "It's going to take some time and it's a worry that some people don't even realize this."
Also joining Barry in his efforts is celebrity socialite Tessa Prieto Valdes and action star Cesar Montano who candidly confessed to being "in the dark" on the actual havoc caused by the destructive tropical storm.
